Successful technology collaborations in automobile industry - strategic implications for firms in developing countries

Abstract: Two case studies of successful technological collaborations from Indian automobile sector, both completed full span of 25 years of cordial and active collaboration, are presented to further strengthen the theory that it takes a sincere approach on the part of both players to take a technological collaboration to its happy ending. It is a purely qualitative study based on in-depth interviews with strategic and high middle level management executives. Strategic management of technology, healthy and trustworthy partnership, strong communication and perseverance of indigenisation agenda formed a strong base for the success of collaboration.
