by Jiri Tupa
International Journal of Lean Enterprise Research (IJLER), Vol. 1, No. 2, 2014

Abstract: This article deals with the implementation of a lean management system in interaction with performance measurement. The problem in practice is how to monitor the efficiency of the lean management system. The issue of lean management in relation to performance management and process controlling is discussed in the first part. The core of this paper is a proposal of a suitable methodology based on the balanced scorecard (BSC) method, a process controlling the principles of lean management. The benefit of the BSC and process controlling application is the building of an effective system for the performance measurement and diagnostic processes. Research methods like a literature review, questionnaires, observations, data collection and case studies were used for the formulation of the methodology and its verification. The implementation process and results are described in the case study. An evaluation of the implementation confirmed the suitability of the proposed methodology for its use in small and medium-sized enterprises which implement a lean approach.
