Effect of fibre length and weight percentage on mechanical properties of short sisal/polyester composite

Abstract: The present study investigates the mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural and impact of randomly oriented short sisal fibre reinforced polyester composites. The composites were fabricated using compression moulding method with varying fibre length (3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm) and varying weight percentages (20%, 30%, 40%, 50%) of fibre in room temperature. The result from the mechanical tests reveals that the fibre length of 3 mm and fibre weight percentage of 50, sisal fibre reinforced composite offers superior properties compared to other fibre lengths and weighting percentages of sisal fibre.
