Abstract: The two prominent telecommunication organisation's, one public and another private, undertaking's information systems (IS), have been analysed to infer the critical success and failure factors of IS, which leads to their different type of performances. This study is particularly important because if known, the failure factors of an information system (IS) can be converted into success factors. Besides, India is the second largest country in terms of number of mobile users in the entire world. Therefore, this study is strategically and economically important due to its high potential of the growth in the country. The opinion of 239 managers in the two telecommunication companies regarding the predominantly prevailing success and failure factors has been considered and then analysed via the statistical tools for interpretation in-order to reach meaningful conclusions. The research conclusions are beneficial for the specialised companies who are interested in making their important decisions on an information system.
