International Journal of Teaching and Case Studies (IJTCS), Vol. 5, No. 2, 2014

Abstract: This is a teaching case based on Freedom University Bangladesh, Chittagong (FUBC). The newly recruited Vice Chancellor of the university tried to bring about some vital changes in the university concerning curriculum design and faculty management. However, he faced harsh resistance from the administrative staff and faculty members and caused serious damage to the image and reputation of the university. This case highlights the crucial role of recruitment and selection, particularly of a CEO for an organisation. It also spotlights the significance of change management in an organisation. Furthermore, it emphasises organisation culture as an important situational variable when considering managers/leaders. It can be used in a wide variety of leadership and management courses and programmes. This case also includes a comprehensive teaching note.
