Abstract: The ongoing development in last-mile logistics fuelled by the emergence of e-commerce is paralleled by an upheaval in mobile communication technology and user behaviour in communication. The application of mobile communication systems in last-mile logistics processes provides the opportunity to originate various types of business model and technological innovations in this business field. One opportunity is the implementation of an end-to-end information flow between sender, logistics provider, shipment and recipient in the last-mile delivery process. In this contribution, we focus on the creation of the knowledge basis, which is necessary to build an end-to-end information flow and subsequently, develop mobile applications which aid the last-mile logistics process.
