International Journal of Management in Education (IJMIE), Vol. 8, No. 4, 2014

Abstract: More than one and a half million students are centrally placed to departments of universities in Turkey through a central examination and placement system. However, there is a growing public unease and distrust towards the system itself after recent alleged mass cheating incidents. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a new university admission model based on computerised examination and decentralised placement, in order to improve the current system. The opinions of the major stakeholders of the university admission system were assessed via questionnaire survey and results are discussed. According to the results, the majority of the shareholders are expected to accept decentralised placement, but to show some resistance towards computerised examination.
