Abstract: Preventive maintenance (PM) operations are normally practiced by organisations to maintain the integrity of equipment and to avoid occurrences of failure. However, machine downtime continues to be a major issue even if PM is done periodically. Machines fail to operate because of faulty components. This paper presents a planning model on grouping machines based on failure components that adopts group technology principle to group machines based on failure rate, thus allowing for PM to be conducted in groups. The model is then validated and applied to a case study conducted in a semiconductor company. The application can be used to simplify maintenance operations in terms of PM planning.
