The effects of entrepreneurial orientations of small-medium enterprises in Tamil Nadu-Southern India

Abstract: Entrepreneurial orientation is a set of entrepreneurial behaviour that an entrepreneur uses towards their business performance. Entrepreneurial orientation compliments the entrepreneurs' to work proactively on their small medium business so as to attain their desire goals. Small-medium enterprises businesses have been the means of support for those who depend on it for income. Hence, the effectiveness of entrepreneurial orientation on small-medium enterprises was to enhance the individual's livelihood and at the same time contributes to the local economy growth. The entrepreneurial orientations have dimensions like autonomy, innovativeness, risk-taking, proactiveness and competitive aggressiveness. This research was to find out the effectiveness of entrepreneurial orientation on small medium enterprises in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu-India. A sampling of 400 entrepreneurs was taken across the eight sub-districts of Thanjavur district. Louis Guttman's scalogram analysis, K-mean cluster analysis, ANNOVA and F-statistics were used for evaluating the data. The result reveals that there is a strong effect of entrepreneurial orientation among the entrepreneurs especially entrepreneurs from Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and Thiruvaiyaru, sub-district (Taluks) of Thanjavur district which is famous for pilgrimage.
