Radiation: an environmental viewpoint
by Patrick Green
International Journal of Global Energy Issues (IJGEI), Vol. 1, No. 1/2, 1989

Abstract: The nuclear industry has consistently claimed that public fear about radiation is irrational and misguided. Such concern is seen as a direct threat to the industry with ''environmentalists'' deliberately distorting the arguments to suit their own political ends. This article disputes this. It considers two issues on which ''environmentalists'' have stated that there is cause for concern, over basic radiation safety standards and over the question of excesses of childhood leukaemia around nuclear installations. In both cases this concern has later been found to be justified by the scientific evidence.
