DTCD policies and approach to international technical co-operation in the energy field

Abstract: As the developing countries of the world increase their demand for energy the need for technical co-operation among them will increase. Rising oil prices and the high level of capital investment required for the exploitation of energy resources represent major difficulties for developing countries. In addition, the need to intensify the monitoring and control of the environmental impact of energy resource development and use will create further financial burdens on developing economies. The United Nations Department of Technical Co-operation for Development (UN/DTCD) provides assistance to developing countries faced with these difficulties through project activities in the area of energy, centering on institution building by direct support, training and provision of modern equipment.
