Fossil fuel power plants: minimizing emissions, maximizing efficiency

Abstract: The greenhouse effect, widespread forest damage, and serious risks to human health have put environmental protection and resource conservation on the front burner. Under pressure to reduce emissions of CO2 and NOX operators of fossil fuel-fired power plants in many countries are straining to maximize their efficiency. One sure-fire answer: increased use of natural gas. The author examines this with respect to the implementation of combined gas and steam plants.
