Abstract: Distorted situation 'images' frequently lead to misunderstandings and mistrust in international relations. A proper understanding of the situation in which a decision making system finds itself would help to regulate international conflicts and allow more resources to be made available for the resolution of global problems. A systems approach to information assessment is useful in minimising the distortion of the picture of a situation.
