Exergoeconomic evaluation and optimization of cogeneration systems

International Journal of Global Energy Issues (IJGEI), Vol. 7, No. 3/4, 1995

Abstract: This paper discusses the application of exergoeconomics, one of the most advanced thermal-system analysis methods, to the evaluation and optimization of a cogeneration system. The procedures of exergy analysis, economic analysis and exergy costing are briefly outlined. The work shows how an exergoeconomic analysis identifies the real sources of thermodynamic waste and costs. Thus, this analysis is an effective, objective and practical tool for the design evaluation and optimization of cogeneration systems, particularly when insufficient cost data are available.
