Abstract: This paper presents the potential application of new methods of knowledge processing and expert systems as applied to the field of nuclear safety engineering. It is considered that the synergy of these new methods of problem solving can provide powerful and flexible new tools and an adequate modelling framework to practitioners of systems engineering and management.
