Abstract: The long-term future of the car depends on many factors. As usual in this sector, considerable uncertainty surrounds the quantitative level of the markets. Economic and social development (discretionary income of households, company expenditures, breakdown between consumption and investment) remains the principal factor in the market, and it would be foolhardy to predict any given profile for the fleets in circulation by such a distant horizon. The car manufacturers, as they have always done, will have to prepare to react to a range of possible scenarios.
