Abstract: The current status of biomass as one of the potential energy alternatives is reviewed. The technologies used in biomass conversion, known as well as recently researched, are assessed. The effects on the forest cover of the absence of energy efficient technologies, and desirable energy planning necessitating appropriate resource generation strategies at rural community level are stressed.
