The E & P regimes and incentives in the Middle East and North Africa

Abstract: This paper was given at the 10th Annual APS Conference in Nicosia on 8 October 1996. It is concerned with developments in the production of hydrocarbons and incentives that motivate their production. The paper outlines the specific regions which are examined whilst, highlighting the disparities in size, population density and distribution of hydrocarbon resources in those regions. It attempts to put a long term perspective on events of the last four decades by tracing the rise of energy demand and the place of oil within it, concluding by considering possible future oil demands in the global economy.
