Abstract: Arab oil and gas resources can be classified according to the recommended definitions of the World Petroleum Congress Study Group as follows: proved reserves; undiscovered potential recovery; reserve additions due to the application of improved recovery techniques; unconventional oil extracted from oil shale. In order to estimate the potential for additional petroleum resources in the Arab countries, the aforementioned four groups are discussed and quantitative estimates and conclusions are drawn up.
