Abstract: Authors in this paper propose a model containing the main variables and measures of the technological knowledge that professional firms may have or control, in a context that recognises knowledge as the most important asset in value-creation process. So identifying variables and measures of technological knowledge may help us to explain why heterogeneous firms in a technological sense result in different performance. The results presented here show our conclusions after reviewing different previous theoretical models as well as after developing several workshops held among scholars and practitioners at Euroforum Escorial University Institute, where one of the most important Spanish intellectual capital model – the Intellect Model – was developed. The interest of our study is twofold: from an internal point of view, it serves as an instrument to improve the decision-making process about knowledge management practices since ''what cannot be measured cannot be managed'' in several authors' words; and from an external point of view, the model offers complementary information about some key aspects of interest to shareholders, customers, suppliers, competitors, public administrators, and society in general.
