Abstract: Expert systems, which are designed to capture the knowledge of human experts and apply it to solving specific problems, are already offering substantial benefits in applications where conventional technology has proved ineffective. Alcatel is using the present technology while developing advanced techniques that will be able to solve more complex problems.
