Generation and evaluation of assembly sequences in computer-automated process planning

Abstract: This paper discusses the sequencing of operations for the assembly of a product, and the effect of the methodology that is used on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the assembly system. Using two typical examples, the impact of the choice of a certain assembly sequence on the physical layout of the plant and on its performance are examined. The assembly sequence has a significant influence on the manufacturing cost of a product and this aspect has been discussed.
