The development of the new telecommunication technologies in Europe

Abstract: This paper analyses the development of telecommunication technologies in the main EEC countries in the period 1980-1989. Time series and cross-section data are analysed to evidence the different national behaviours. Furthermore, integrated centrality indices are computed to focus the different abilities in the adoption of advanced technologies. Finally, a cross-national forecasting exercise is performed and the incoming effects wave of innovations in telematics discussed.
