International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology (IJCAT), Vol. 7, No. 1/2, 1994

Abstract: During the 1990s the survival instincts, in terms of career development of IS professionals, will be fully tested. The MIS profession will have to deal directly with: the pros and cons of decentralisation; the question of where MIS fits into the corporate environment; cultural resistance; the lack of influence on corporate strategy; uncertain job expectations. This article describes a future in which a paradigm shift will revolutionise the profession by its influence upon business strategies, by development of organisation learning capabilities, and by corporate culture changes brought about with effective organisation communication. These revolutionary events foreshadow changes in the structural and functional dimensions within the profession.
