Abstract: A true CIM system needs an effective integration plan not only for hardware, but also for inter-departmental (inter-functional) and intra-departmental (intra-functional) interaction. Up to now, most of the efforts are directed towards developing integrated engineering systems. Unfortunately, the ''CIM system excluding the Integrated Planning & Control system'' is the present status of CIM. It can ensure technical advantages through technical flexibility, no doubt. But the ultimate goal of improving quality, with reduced levels of inventory, reduced cost etc. through better materials planning is still absent. This can be achieved only through an integrated production planning and control system. This paper presents a scheme for an Integrated Production Planning and Control System.
