Analysis of present scheme of MRPII-CAD integration: problems and prospects

Abstract: Lack of integration between the islands of automation in modern manufacturing systems has been recognised as a major obstacle in achieving the objectives of CIM in totality. CAD and MRPII are two major basic islands (initial means the initial phases of phased CIM implementation) which exist in manufacturing. An integration between these two subsystems has been recognised as the most important initial step for implementation of CIM systems. The integration strategy for CIM can be based on the determination of common features and characteristics of the subsystems which can be shared to formulate an integrated solution. The CAD and MRPII are two sub-systems of CIM which have a large number of common features. So an integration is possible between these two sub-systems. This paper analyses the present characteristics of integration, its weakness and proposes an integration plan.
