Expert systems in the service industry: a comprehensive survey and an application

Abstract: This paper examines the importance of expert systems in the service industry. In particular, the application of expert systems in the tourism industry is investigated. A comprehensive survey is presented to highlight the need for expert systems in the tourism industry. A detailed discussion of the development and implementation of ANESTA, an expert system for tourist advisory, is presented. Finally, directions for future research are suggested.
