Abstract: For a manufacturing company to become world competitive it must, among other things, have an effective information processing capability. In today's environment, there are a great variety of computer systems which make the linking of computers to enable electronic data interchange even more difficult and costly. This problem is addressed in this paper with the development of a system which allows the integration of manufacturing systems in a generic way. The methodology for this generic approach, aimed at achieving efficient data exchange among involved systems, is covered in the paper.
