International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology (IJCAT), Vol. 11, No. 3/4/5, 1998

Abstract: FLOTRAN is a CFD-solver based on the finite-element method. FLOTRAN combines the advantages of existing finite difference and finite volume methods. It has the following capabilities: steady-state or transient flow; 2D, axisymmetric, 3D flows; compressible and incompressible flows; subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows; fluid flow with heat transfer; conjugate heat transfer; Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids; multiple species transport; rotating frame of reference for turbo machinery applications; layered free meshing for best resolution of boundary layers (2D); and fluid-structure coupling.
