The sensitivity analysis of lateral acceleration for the front wheel steering vehicle in the frequency domain

Abstract: In this paper, the sensitivity analysis of lateral acceleration for the front wheel steering vehicle is considered in the frequency domain. A simple vehicle model which has two degrees of freedom is used for the derivation of the transfer function. The transfer function is defined by a steering angle input and a lateral acceleration output. Vehicle mass, inertia, cornering stiffness, and wheel base are taken as design variables. Sensitivity analyses are performed with the system modelling process and formulation of the sensitivity functions. The objective of this research is the proposition or a base for redesign and new design of the vehicle by checking the lateral acceleration variations with respect to the design variable change in the frequency domain. Finally, dominant design variables are suggested through the simulations. Also, we suggest the zero sensitivity point that it must be carefully treated as one of the design criteria. Because the maximum state variations with respect to the variation of the design variables might occur at this point, we must remove it in the normal operating design point within the range of possibility. This idea could be used in the vehicle design and control as one of the tools.
