ISO 9000 series registration to European Quality Award Status: the key actions

Abstract: This paper discusses some of the actions which need to be taken by an organization if they wish to progress from ISO 9000 series registration to European Quality Award (EQA) status. There is a large gap between the requirements outlined in ISO 9001 and the EQA model of Total Quality Management (TQM). However, organizations wishing to develop to TQM from their ISO 9000 series registration would benefit from studying the EQA model. This would provide them with the necessary insight of what is involved. It is also pointed out that those organizations that are relatively immature in their development of TQM should use one of the traditional prescriptive or non-prescriptive methods of introducing the basics of TQM, before using self-assessment methods in earnest. In this way, self-assessment would be employed to best advantage.
