Simulation analysis requirements in a simultaneous engineering environment

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 12, No. 2, 1991

Abstract: As increasingly complex products make increasing use of new technologies to gain more rapid market penetration, it becomes essential that much greater priority be placed on the design process. To accompany an innovative multidisciplinary teamwork approach that significantly 'frontloads' the design process, an advanced generation of computer applications is needed. The advanced application modules described in this article are characterised by design control, easy access to the most current information, and immediate updates of models for design evaluation, stress analysis, or manufacturability simulation, all directly related to one master model. Three factors - corporate management's emphasis on design, multidisciplinary teamwork relying on the direct involvement of first-line suppliers, and implementation of application modules oriented to simultaneous engineering - will generate higher quality products in shorter periods of time at less cost.
