International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 11, No. 3, 1990

Abstract: We developed an expert tool which can implement object-oriented language for describing automotive design methods. Incorporating the knowledge of automotive designers, this tool can produce high design efficiency and reliability. The system is aimed mainly at assisting designers in working routine design modifications. It offers the following advantages: (1) it guides the design procedure properly; (2) it allows design to be carried out with less concentration of design constraints; and (3) it allows for expansion of knowledge and knowledge within the system. Based on practical examples of layout and performance design work, tool configuration and methods, along with associated problems, for developing expert systems are described.
