Abstract: Various analyses were carried out to elucidate the noise and vibration phenomena generated by the main structural components of V6 engines. It was found that the offset construction of adjacent crankshaft pins gives rise to bending deformation coupled with torsional deformation. The structure of the cylinder block is apt to undergo twisting. These characteristics were found to be the main causes of noise and vibration. Based on these findings, design techniques have been devised to reduce the noise and vibration levels of V6 engines.
