The state of the art of research into methanol fuels for automotive engines in China

Abstract: In this paper, based on an amount of research literature which has been recently published in Chinese journals, the author has reviewed the present situation of research into alternative fuels for automotive use in China. Especially in respect of studying methanol fuel, a large scale test was performed. About 500 trucks travelled for more than 60,000 ton-km in the field test and a large amount of important data was gained. A brief resume is given of progress of research in China into applying methanol fuel to other uses. In this paper, the author's opinion about further development of alternative fuel in China is presented.
