Overhead productivity - the international challenge of the decade
by T.W. Bevington
International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 9, No. 2, 1988

Abstract: The automotive industry is going through a dramatic period of change largely as a result of over capacity and the introduction of new technology. A major and increasing cost element is that of overheads. The paper examines the reasons for the growth in overheads and identifies key factors affecting overhead productivity. It then goes on to discuss the three stages in the development and introduction of overhead control programmes within companies. The final part of the paper deals with the outline of an overhead analysis and control programme which has been used with success in many companies in the automotive sector to gain improvements in the range of 10-20%.
