The influence of methanol blended with normal petrol on vehicle engine performance

Abstract: The need to replace fossil fuels with suitable alternative fuels is particularly acute at present. The feasibility of using alcohols and alcohol-hydrocarbon blends to partially replace hydrocarbons as fuels for internal combustion engines is fairly well established and they have been used in limited quantities for more than fifty years. This work was carried out in order to demonstrate that, in the climatic conditions of Israel, good performance and low-pollutant emissions can be obtained. Material compatibility and acceptable driveability for a 5% methanol blend with petrol was investigated.
