Abstract: An improvement in electrode life is desirable in resistance spot welding of zinc-plated steel sheets, which have been widely used in the automotive industry. Spot weld electrode lives are investigated for various types of zinc-plated steel sheets. Discussions are carried out from the viewpoint of chemical composition of the plated layer in order to find a zinc-plated layer which ensures long electrode life in practice.
