Ceramic fibres for the automotive industry
by J. Fryatt
International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 6, No. 4/5, 1985

Abstract: Ceramic fibres have been available commercially for over twenty years. During this time, they have given designers, constructors and manufacturers in heat-using industries increased degrees of flexibility in materials selection needed to respond to demands from changing operating conditions and legislation. Similar changes are becoming evident in the automotive industry, particularly with respect to replacing asbestos-containing products and to designing thermoacoustic systems to satisfy current and pending legislation on exhaust emissions. This article outlines the major product forms and properties and gives a brief indication of future prospects.
