Laminated steel for noise, vibration and weight reduction in vehicle bodies

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 6, No. 4/5, 1985

Abstract: As laminated steel can give very good structure-borne sound damping properties, even with a very thin damping layer, which means a very small weight increase, the material should be ideal for lightweight applications. To study the effect of using laminated steel in car body panels laboratory tests and some vehicle tests have been made with car bulkheads. The laboratory tests have included evaluation of both the structure-borne sound damping properties and the airborne sound insulation properties. The laminated steel used was an Antiphon material designated MPM, where MPM stands for metal-plastic-metal.
