Designing the arrangement of a variable connection type compound planetary train with three degrees-of-freedom by means of a 'Ratio Analysis Diagram'

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 2, No. 2, 1981

Abstract: The paper deals with the kinematic characteristics of variable connection type compound planetary trains with three degrees-of-freedom, and a new approach to determining the arrangement of trains of this type by the 'Ratio Analysis Diagram' is suggested. It is based on the development of the rules for compound planetary trains with two degrees-of-freedom. The method presented is convenient and simple both in plotting and calculation. It is suitable for designing most of the variable connection type planetary gearboxes widely used in vehicles and some other machines, with the exception of a few unusual cases.
