Total external characteristics of hydrodynamic transmission

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 1, No. 4, 1980

Abstract: It is possible to divide all the static operating conditions of hydrodynamic transmissions into three groups: traction, backward and braking. These are arranged in an exact sequence within the zones, −∞≤i ≤∞ when ω1 > 0 and −∞≤i ≤∞ when ω1 > 0, that correspond to the total external characteristics of the transmission systems. Examples of those characteristics are given for principal types of fluid couplings and torque converters. Equations and the peculiarities of the calculations are also given.
