Abstract: With regard to operating reliability and the minimizing of wear, a dynamic analysis of the valve mechanism is necessary during the construction stage. A suitable aid for optimising the vibrating process in the valve mechanism is the dynamic simulation on the digital computer when adequate determination of the most important considerations such as rigidity and damping has been done successfully. Many tests and simulation processes were carried out to determine these parameters and to examine the computer model. A discrete multi-body system with 9 degrees of freedom was used for the calculation. The model includes gaps as well as coulomb and viscous damping. The non-linear differential set of equations is resolved by a self-starting predictor-corrector processor with interval control. The research programme serves to define model data and to test the calculation result. Dynamic tests were carried out on a running engine as well as on a dummy engine in order to keep the influence of the gas forces explicit. With the aid of the examined computer model, variation calculations were carried out in order to determine the validity of some system sizes such as damping, friction and manufacturing tolerances. This paper reports the research and evaluation methods, the last result, the computer result as well as the comparison of the calculations and measurements and the effect of important parameters.
