Noise and vibration measurements as a tool for vehicle noise reduction - a question of using the right methods

Abstract: The internal and external noise generation of vehicles is governed by the properties of the sources, acoustical and mechanical transmission paths and radiating surfaces. A special problem in vehicles is the fact that the geometrical dimensions are of the same order as the acoustical and structural wave lengths. Different measurement and signal analysis techniques can be used to give information about generating mechanisms, transmission paths and sound radiation.
