Automation of body assembly operations

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 8, No. 3, 1987

Abstract: Development trends in body assembly operations within the automotive industry have shown little change in the flow of these operations. What has been striking is the move towards automated production equipment dramatically improving capacity and quality, in which workers are being replaced by robots and other machines. Reductions in the number of equipment amendments and improved efficiency are being obtained by introducing flexible production lines and off-line robot training into the various body assembly operations. In pursuing even greater efficiency in the future, these operations will undergo further automation and a trend will be seen towards a fully automated system.
