An analysis of ride harshness

Abstract: Ride harshness is an important factor in ride comfort. A theoretical analysis of harshness has been made, with the tyres and suspension represented by a finite element model. It has been confirmed that this method of analysis is applicable to relatively high frequency vibrations and facilitates the identification and evaluation of relevant factors. Use of this analytic method has also made possible the clarification of vibrational characteristics of ride harshness. Further, the correlation of ride comfort with handling and stability has been analysed, and one method for investigating that correlation is described.
