Future developments in materials and composites
by W.F. Madden
International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 5, No. 5, 1984

Abstract: This paper focuses principally on polymers and composites in structural applications, although throughout reference will be made to other materials from whose history we can draw important conclusions regarding the future, or, equally to materials which have significant potential in the years ahead. Initially the current situation on materials production is examined and some of the 'determiners' which have influenced their development and, of course, which are relevant to any projections through to the turn of the century are analysed. This is followed by a personal view of the materials scene in the year 2000, both in regard to the materials developments which are likely to be relevant and the key market sectors where the major developments are likely to take place.
