Abstract: This study examines whether and how reconfiguration of cooperation mechanism affects new product development in emerging economies. By using a sample of 167 Chinese firms, we find that reconfiguration of cooperation mechanism can strengthen new product development of firms. Further, we find both capability to influence government and capability to influence industry as external dynamic capabilities of firms in emerging economies positively affect reconfiguration of cooperation mechanism, and technological resource base of firms can moderate the relationships between external dynamic capabilities and reconfiguration of cooperation mechanism differently.
