International Journal of Microstructure and Materials Properties (IJMMP), Vol. 8, No. 6, 2013

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to study the factors affecting the optical performance and chroma index of cobalt colour glass. This blue-green glass is to be produced from the glass raw material, Na2O-CaO-SiO2, as fundamental material with addition of CoO in combination as colorants. Many factors can affect glass colour. This paper presents the various factors affecting the glass colouring through the analysis by experiments. In experiments, mixed batch glass materials were obtained from the fundamental raw materials. Samples of glass plates were obtained through the melting of mixed batch glass material. The analysis of spectrum transmittance was carried out separately by SP-1920 spectrophotometer. In the experiments, the samples of glass plates were prepared by varying concentrations of CoO and K2O and decreasing the temperature of melting process. The test results indicate that the above-mentioned factors can affect the glass colouring to different extents.
