Abstract: The total execution time of a time-critical service composition is restricted by a threshold that must be fulfilled to ensure a successful execution. The execution time restriction can be violated because of uncertain response times. This article proposes a time-sensitive service reconfiguration scheme that accounts for a reliable and cost-minimised execution of time-critical service compositions. Existing reconfiguration approaches are extended to incorporate timing aspects that are necessary for a successful and cost-minimised reconfiguration. The runtime efficiency of the reconfiguration is addressed by a novel approach used to restrict the services considered by the reconfiguration. It turns out that an appropriate restriction improves the runtime efficiency of the reconfiguration without deteriorating the reliability of the service execution.
